IGS Donates $1,812 To War of 1812 Pension Project

The Indiana Genealogical Society has donated $1,812 to the Illinois State Genealogical Society towards their match challenge for War of 1812 pensions. The match challenge is to help raise money for the Federation of Genealogical Societies' Preserve the Pensions project, which is digitizing 7 million pages of pension files for War of 1812 veterans and their dependents. The pension files are being placed online at Fold3, where they will be available to the public for free.

In 2011 the Indiana Genealogical Society completed their own match challenge for this project, presenting a check for $24,234 to the Federation of Genealogical Societies.
