African American Group To Discuss Records Preservation

The Indiana African American Genealogy Group will meet on Saturday, August 21 from noon to 3 pm at at the Indiana State Library in Indianapolis. The topic will be “The Care, Handling and Housing of Archival Records.” Elizabeth Hague of the Indiana State Archives' Conservation Lab will provide a brief introduction into the handling, housing, and care of historic records. She will cover the proper way to store records and also the safest environment for them. She will also touch on housekeeping in storage areas. Care of records will be presented from a preservation point of view. Hague will include sources from which to buy archival supplies.

Preceding Hague’s presentation will be a an hour dedicated to research and education. IAAGG member Nancy Wysinger will lead attendees in preparing for onsite research during the group’s upcoming trip to the Allen County Library.

The meeting is free and open to the public.
