IGS To Hold Seminar in April

As part of its pre-conference activities, the Indiana Genealogical Society will hold a Society Management Seminar on Friday, April 24 from 10 am to 5:30 pm at the Warren Branch Library (9701 E. 21st St., Indianapolis IN). The theme of the seminar is "Preserving Onsite — Publishing Online." Registration is free for anyone who is a member of an IGS chapter; for all others, the fee is $5.

Seminar topics:
  • Preserving Local Records--Learn about national efforts to inform individuals and government officials about preserving records and making them accessible. Discover ways you and your society can have a positive impact locally.

  • Electronic Publishing--A view of some possibilities for publishing your materials electronically. It may be cheaper and easier — and more popular — than you think.

  • Bits and Bytes of Digitizing--Discover some of the standards and processes for a successful digitization project. Learn tips from choosing the right equipment to saving in the right format.

  • Your Projects and Third-Party Websites--Use genealogy publishing websites to your society’s advantage. Discover ways of collaborating and publishing using websites such as WeRelate, Footnote, and Flickr.

  • Discussion and Q&A
