FamilySearch Adds Indiana Naturalization Index 1848-1992

FamilySearch has added browseable images of a Indiana naturalization card file that is at the National Archives' Great Lakes region in Chicago. This card file covers the years 1848 to 1992 and references the naturalization records of the federal district courts in Fort Wayne, Hammond, Indianapolis, Lafayette and South Bend.

NOTE: The information that is contained on the cards varies - some only reference a certificate number, others include some biographical information and the federal district court where the naturalization petition was filed.

Don't forget that naturalization petitions could also have been filed in county and state courts in Indiana.

  1. Thanks Meri, I hope the Federal Court Clerks in Hammond, will be prepared to answer all those question they are going to get about where the records are housed. Because I can't get a straight answer from them.
