Petition Circulating To Save Library of Michigan

The Records Preservation and Access Committee (which is sponsored by the Federation of Genealogical Societies and the National Genealogical Society) is circulating an online petition urging the Michigan legislature to overturn the governor's Executive Order 2009-36, which would abolish the Library of Michigan and disperse its collection. The executive order is set to go into effect on October 1st. The state's Senate has already voted to overturn the order; the House of Representatives must also do so.

The online petition can be found at http://www.PetitionOnline.com/RPAC2009/petition.html--you do not have to be a Michigan resident in order to sign it. The Michigan Genealogical Council has more information on the issue at http://www.mimgc.org/LOM.html
