IGS Adds Carroll County & Clark County Databases To Members-Only

The Indiana Genealogical Society has added more databases to the Members Only area of its website:

County Records
--Index to Defective, Dependent & Delinquent Census for Carroll County, Indiana (1880)
--Index to Defective, Dependent & Delinquent Census for Clark County, Indiana (1880)

The 1880 DDD (Defective, Dependent & Delinquent) Schedule was a supplemental schedule to the 1880 federal census. It listed additional information about individuals who had an entry in columns 15 through 20 of the population schedule, identifying them as disabled in some way. There were seven categories for which the census enumerator was asked to enter additional information: Insane, Idiotic, Deaf and Mute, Blind, Homeless Children, Inhabitants in Prison, and Indigents.

The 1880 DDD schedule for Indiana's counties is on microfilm at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne. There are no known indexes to Indiana's 1880 DDD Schedule; the IGS Publications Committee, thanks to the help of the Indiana County Genealogists, is working to index all 92 counties for Indiana.

These are premium databases, accessible only to IGS members. They were submitted as part of the 2 for 92 Project, where IGS is committed to adding at least 2 databases for each of Indiana's 92 counties.

The Indiana Genealogical Society has 288 databases in the Members Only area, covering 62 Indiana counties. More databases will be added over time.
