Mike Lewman Appointed New IGS Grants Chair



The Indiana Genealogical Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Mikel Lewman as the Chair of the IGS Grants Program. The IGS Grants Program awards three $500 grants each year to local societies for Cemetery Preservation and Resource Development. Mr. Lewman volunteered to manage this program for the Indiana Genealogical Society.

            Mike  Lewman, a native of Parke County, has had a divided career with 14 years in the public education sector and 23 years in industry.  All but four years of this time was spent in Columbus, Indiana, where Mike worked for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation and Cummins Inc. Mike earned a B.S. degree in Education from Indiana State University. He also earned M.A. and M.S. degrees from Indiana University.
            Mike is President and Publicity Chair of the Wabash Valley Genealogy Society, President of the Parke County Historical Society, and founder and President of the Hixon Cemetery Association. 
            Mike is also secretary of the ARABS (Alliance Representing A Building  Savior) organization.  This non-profit group has undertaken the restoration and preservation of the Mecca School in Mecca, IN.  The Mecca School has been designated a National Historic Landmark.   In addition, he is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution; Society of Indiana Pioneers; and a charter member the Indiana Territorial Guard.
