The Indiana Genealogical Society has added an index of the graves of Monroe County veterans to the County Records section of our Members Only area:
--Registration of Veterans' Graves in Monroe County, Indiana (1939)
ABOUT THIS DATABASE: In 1939, in an effort to aid people in the years following the Great Depression, the state government paid workers to identify and record information about veterans from various wars that were buried within the state. By the time the project was concluded several years later, information on the veterans' graves for 51 of Indiana’s 92 counties had been recorded on typed 3x5 cards, filed in alphabetical order by surname and separated by county. Those records, which total thousands of cards, are available at the Indiana State Archives.
This is a premium database, accessible only to IGS members. It was contributed by Randi Richardson.
The Indiana Genealogical Society now has 1,133 databases in the Members Only area. Each of Indiana's 92 counties has at least 4 databases.
