The LaPorte County, Indiana Genealogical Society will lead a tour of Low Cemetery (600 West Johnson Road) on Tuesday, June 11 at 6 pm. The public is invited to attend. The tour will be led by society members Gloria Ardnt and Dorothy Palmer, and after the tour the group will go to a nearby restaurant for dinner.
Low Cemetery was first known as Coolspring Cemetery and was created in 1837 by LaPorte County pioneer John Van Meter. Among the burials are 15 Civil War soldiers and 1 Revolutionary War soldier. The cemetery tour will include several well-known residents - Mary Low Mudge (1843-1924), Charles Otis Low (1841-1902), Ebenezer Palmer (1792-1845), Francis "Fanny" Crozier Palmer (1794-1845), Israel Shreve (1815-1865) and Samuel Fritz (1819-1880).
