Evansville Death Records Will No Longer Include Cause of Death

According to this editorial by the Evansville Courier & Press, the Vanderburgh County Health Department will no longer be including the cause of death on death records that are requested by the public. The health department cites as their legal basis a 2007 ruling by the Indiana Public Access Counselor about which pieces of information must be included on a death record. The editorial notes that for researchers and genealogists, "...it's an unfortunate step back in public information."
