We live in Scipio and are wondering if the name of our town came from the Roman General Scipio Africanus. There is a town near us named Sardinia which is one of the cities offered to Scipio Africanus by Hannibal. Do you know where these names originated?

Im not sure about in Decatur County, but in La Porte County there is also a township called Scipio. It was named after the city in New York that the first residents migrated from. Whats funny is that the town of Scipio in New York is surrounded by the cities of Romulus, Ithica.
