The Genealogical Society of Marion County will meet on Saturday, July 13 from 1 to 3 pm at the Glendale Branch of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library (Glendale Shopping Center, 6101 N. Keystone Ave., Indianapolis IN 46220). Lou Malcomb will present a program, "Cemeteries and Maps," focusing on using maps to identify and locate cemeteries, as well as creating maps of the cemeteries within a community. The program will also touch on methods for actually mapping cemeteries. Admission is free and open to the public.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Lou Malcomb serves as Head, Government Information, Maps and Microform Services (ET2) and Librarian for the Geosciences at Indiana University Bloomington. She received the Documents to the People Award from the American Librarians Association in 2011. She is an active volunteer with the Monroe County History Center in Bloomington, co-chairing their Cemetery Committee. She is a member of the Indiana Chapter of the Association of Gravestone Studies, Indiana Library Federation, Indiana Cave Survey, Indiana Historical Society, and the Indiana Genealogical Society, as well as other organizations.
