The LaPorte County, Indiana Genealogical Society will meet on Tuesday, November 13 at 7 pm to share stories of ancestors who served in the War of 1812. The War of 1812 (also known as the Second War for Independence), gave us our national anthem and a national hero in General Andrew Jackson, but it does not always get the attention it deserves in history.
The meeting will be held at the Swanson Center for Older Adults (910 State St.) in LaPorte. The public is welcome.
Membership in the society is $10 for individuals, $12 for families. Back issues of the society's newsletter from December 2005 through December 2009, which include abstracts from local records, can be found on the society's blog - http://lpcgs.blogspot.com.
