FamilySearch has posted a free index of Indiana in the 1940 census. The index is at
https://familysearch.org/1940census/1940-census-indiana/ and also includes a link to the image of the specific census page. Both the index and the images are free to the public and are part of the
1940 Census Community Project. Way to go, volunteers!!
