The Indiana Genealogical Society has added another database to the Miscellaneous Records section of Members Only:
--Orphans in Indiana (1830's-1900's)
This database was donated by Dawne Slater-Putt, CG and is being shared with the Allen County Public Library. It is an index of individuals who were raised by someone with a different surname than their own, using information culled from various sources (primarily published county histories and genealogical society periodicals). It is in progress and will be periodically updated.
This database is free to the public--no membership is required in order to view it.
The Indiana Genealogical Society has over 255 databases in the Members Only area, covering 55 Indiana counties. More databases will be added over time.
I was in the Washington Indiana Orphanage in 1954-1957.How can i fion others that were there
ReplyDeleteIndiana's State Board of Charities oversaw many of the orphanages. The boards' records were turned over to the Indiana State Archives (http://www.in.gov/icpr/2358.htm), so you may want to contact them to see what happened with the orphanage's records from that period.
