Wayne County Honors Descendant of Indiana Governor
The Centerville home of Oliver Perry Morton, who was Governor of Indiana during the Civil War, hosted a tree-planting ceremony recently by Morton's great-great-grandson. Friday, May 15th was declared "Gov. Oliver Hazard Perry Throck Morton Day" by the town of Centerville and Wayne County. The event was coordinated by the Wayne County Convention & Visitors Bureau, who was able to track down Morton's great-great-grandson in Massachusetts thanks to the detective work of Caroline Throckmorton Lewin, Ph.D. For more information on this event, including a slideshow and newspaper reports, please visit www.throckmortonfamily.com.
