The Indiana Genealogy & Local History Librarians will hold a roundtable on Friday, April 3 from 10 am to 12:30 pm at the Brookville Library (919 Main St., Brookville IN) in Franklin County. The roundtable meetings are held once a quarter at a different library in order for participants to observe the collections, projects, and service areas of other libraries around the state. They provide an opportunity for librarians to meet, share concerns, ask questions, and learn from one another. Attendees will receive one general LEU.
Attendees are asked to register by Friday, March 27 with Julie Schlesselman--e-mail julie@wvcl.org or phone (765) 647-4031. If you plan on joining the group for lunch at a local establishment following the meeting, please indicate this with your registration.
The theme of the roundtable is "Make the Best of Your Collection and Give Your Patrons the Most." No matter what the size of your collection, you will possess at least one item that a researcher will eventually need. The presentation portion of the roundtable will be addressing collections management on a budget – how you can add to your genealogy and local history collection in simple ways, how to make your collection user-friendly, and how to best utilize the resources you have available. How to become familiar with the local county agencies in your area will also be discussed. The talk will be approximately an hour long and ample discussion time will be available at the end of the presentation for an open question and answer session and viewing of the Brookville Library's genealogy and local history collections.
