I am interesting in finding out more about my Kiesel roots. Paul Keisell (born 1818 in Bavaria/Prussia) is on the 1850 and 1880 censuses in Johnson Township, Gibson County, Indiana. He married Margaret Beyer on 10 July 1849 in Gibson County and they had children:
--Madis (?) born about 1850 in Indiana
--Michael born about 1853 in Indiana and died before 1900 in Idaho (he had a wife Kate who also died, leaving their son Peter an orphan around the age of 8 who was raised by their adult daughter Margaret)
--John born about 1855 in Indiana (my great-great-grandfather)
--Paul born about 1857 in Indiana
--Margaret born about 1867 in Indiana
--Caspar born about 1868 in Indiana
--Matilda born about 1872 in Indiana
The 1880 census entry shows they have a adopted a John Vertrees born 1876 and that both of his parents were born in Indiana. Neither Paul nor Margaret show up in the 1900 census, nor do their children Madis, Michael, Paul or Caspar. John and Michael both spelled their last name as Kiesel so I am not sure if their father Paul's spelling of the last name is a typo or the boys just changed it. Any help would be appreciated.

Dear Michell, I'm a cousin of sorts, we share the John Leo Kiesel line. Kiesel is the correct spelling, there are variations. you might see some of my Federal census posts on rootweb under Kiesel surname.
ReplyDeleteI'll try to email you sometime soon with more information or maybe a PDF of the line.
