Query: Underground Railroad, Portland, Jay County

There is an old house on US 27 just north of Portland that as a child I was told the old house was an Underground Railroad used as a rest stop for slaves passing thru. It is a 2-3  story white brick house on the east side of US 27. I seem to remember a name of Levi Coffin either painted on the house or a sign on the house.
The house is located between Portland and Bryant. Can you tell me the history of this house or anything about it?  Thank you for any information.  I was raised in the Portland area and am now living in Oklahoma.

  1. So very interesting!! I have a site called Memories of Jay County Indiana and sure would love for anyone to join that has ties with Jay County and would have old pictures/stories to share. It is a drama/advertisement/spam free site.
